When you stay in a place long enough, you fall into a routine. From day one of my stay in Sairee on Koh Tao, I had been dining at the same place for breakfast every morning, stating it was the very best on offer. To test this theory and through the encouragement of monsoonal rains, we decided to make the mad dash down to The Brother.
The price of the breakfasts on offer was the first flaw. At almost double the price, we almost bailed on our plan to test out a new breakfast spot. For 180 baht you could get a full English breakfast. Maybe the breakfast would be worth the price? With this in mind, we decided to put our favourite breakfast place to the test.
Ordering an English Breakfast and juice, we waited uncomfortably for our meals. Electronic music pumped through us. Definitely not what we would have chosen for the morning whilst hungover, hot and on a chilled out island – an odd choice, for sure.
Our meals arrived. To our dismay our theory of more money equals a better meal was definitely wrong. The servings were tiny and everything was served cold. Out of four meals, none were warm, not even in the slightest. To make it stranger, the orders didn’t come together, but slowly, one at a time.
I’d ordered a fresh orange juice with my breakfast which definitely was up to scratch. However, on some menus (the ones we received) the fresh orange juice was priced at 30 baht. When the bill was brought out, we were charged 90 baht and the waitress came out with a menu with a sticker over the original price charging 90 baht.
All in all a below average breakfast experience. Definitely sticking to New Heaven Cafe for the remainder of breakfast on Koh Tao.
